Dr. Susan Riegg on HCG Diet Day #19

Barbara Swarthow - Wed 22 November 2017 -

This is Dr. Susan Riegg from susanrieggmd.com! Today is November 22nd, and I am on day number nineteen of my HCG diet! I am down to 178.2 pounds, and I started at one 187.0 pounds. So, I'm pretty close to my goal of 10 pounds of weight lost! I will probably go to day 23 and then do my three day washout and be done! Then I'll be able to do some videos about washout and maintenance and talk about that process. So stick around for that!

One of the things I'd like to talk about today that comes up a lot is people are very concerned about what vitamins or supplements they should be taking during the HCG weight loss process. And are they deficient in any vitamins? And is there anything that they can take to enhance the weight loss? And it can be very confusing. There's just so much out there! So many different vitamins and supplements and people get very confused and overwhelmed. So I'm just going to address this very briefly. This is a screenshot from a website showing 40 of the best vitamins and supplements for weight loss.

So you can imagine if this site is just describing the forty best, there are hundreds and hundreds of vitamins and weight loss supplements out there. This particular site just went over what they consider to be the best of the hundreds. So, you can imagine just how overwhelming and expensive this can be. This website is very interesting. And you can see the references are cited here. So, for each micronutrient you can see there are references as to the scientific literature as to how each these nutrients is involved in weight management. So it kinda gives you an idea just how overwhelming this could be.

Now, in addition to vitamins and minerals, there are supplements that is just way beyond the scope of this little short video. But the most recent ones to come out, and I've already addressed things like the green tea extract in previous videos, but the most recent ones to come out are the raspberry ketones by Dr. Oz. And I definitely do not recommend that for my patients. Then, another one recently that came out is the Forskholii Plant extract.

Also, I am not aware that there's any scientific evidence that really lends any credibility to this particular supplement. So, I think from the perspective of the patients and the consumer, they can really get overwhelmed with spending a lot of money on many, many different vitamins and supplements without really knowing what the benefit is! When I'm helping patients with weight loss, I have a tendency to be very conservative and try and keep supplement recommendations to a bare minimum. Because our food supply is not what it use to be as far as our farmland been stripped of nutrients and the problems with fertilizers and so on. I do like to have a high-quality, multi-vitamin available for patients if they want it. So, my favorite multi-vitamin to recommend to patients is the Orthomolecular alpha base.

The spectrum of vitamins and minerals is full spectrum here, including iodine. We actually have the multi-vitamin that does not have iron. We only provide the brand with iron for patients who are truly iron deficient. We always recommend vitamin D because in this geographic area virtually all our patients are vitamin D deficient unless proven otherwise. So vitamin D 5000 IU's is essential and those two supplements are recommended to virtually all patients. N

ow, when patients are on HCG, we strongly recommend they do not use fish oil because, obviously, the oil is going to cancel out their own fat burning and slow down the weight loss. But fish oil is a very wonderful supplement to be on when they're not on HCG and has a lot of wonderful benefits and reduces inflammation and so on. The vitamin b12! Some patients like to take that. It does help with boosting energy. I don't believe it really enhances weight loss, but it really helps. A lot of patients absolutely swear by it and they say it helps. They feel increased energy when they're on it, and it can be administered in four different ways.

Really the best way to get it into the circulation is with intramuscular injections. The second best way is with a patch, and then the next best way is sublingual, and finally with just swallowing it. As I've described before, we love the reacted magnesium and potassium. The magnesium will help if constipation is a problem and then the potassium for muscle cramps, ,charley horse. And then, if needed, we use a super aloe for really problematic constipation. Of course, if patients really wanted, they can use our green tea extract.

So, that's just a brief summary of what we do for patients if they really want to supplement with vitamins to help with weight loss or just to supplement their weight loss. Or, you can send us an email, and we will get back to you as soon as we possibly can! Hope to hear from you soon.
